송주형 작가는 현대 도시에서 발생하는 주거와 환경의 문제를 민감하게 살피고 ‘정신적 자유로움 추구’라는 내적 성찰을 작업의 기본 개념으로 삼는다. 이상적인 자연의 이미지와 폐비닐을 결합한 작품 <流(류)>는 영상을 반사 또는 투과시킴으로써 현대인이 인식하는 자연관과 그럼에도 불구하고 여전히 환경을 훼손하는 모순적인 현실을 드러낸다. <도시-숲>은 조립식 골조와 4개의 영상으로 이루어진 설치작업이다. 4개의 화면으로 분할된 영상은 도시와 자연의 이미지를 하나의 장면으로 구성하고, 조립과 해체가 용이한 모듈화 된 골조는 현대도시 속 임시적으로 유예된 삶을 살아가는 오늘날의 주거 환경을 상징한다.

At the core of Zoohyeong Song’s work is introspection on his pursuit of “spiritual freedom,” seeking to transcend the absurd and inconsistent reality through idealized forms of nature. Contemporary society’s endless desire to possess has given material values authority and justified discriminatory class hierarchies. Song discusses the resulting social conflicts and environmental consequences through his works. He urges us to be immersed in images of nature away from the irrational reality, rid ourselves of narrow-mindedness and materialist obsession, and to refresh our minds.
