장용선 작가는 오늘날 훼손되는 자연에 관심을 갖고 도심에서 자생하는 나무와 풀 등을 작품의 질료로 하여 생명에 대한 가치 질문을 던진다. <찬란한 잔해>는 염색한 아크릴박스 안에 강아지풀 더미와 조명 장치를 함께 설치하였다. 반복되는 빛의 점멸은 생명의 탄생과 죽음의 순환을 암시한다. <Treasure-The Seed Collection>은 종자병 안에 각종 씨앗들을 보관함으로써 사소하고 흔한 생명체의 자기존재성을 인지시킨다. 이와 같이 작가는 자신이 추구해왔던 생명의 근원을 도시와 공생하는 자연물 속에서 풀어내며 모든 자연의 존재를 그 자체로 인정하고 수용하는 태도를 보인다.

Yongsun Jang recognizes each of every living organism including humans a single unit of nature and develops his study on the source of life from the birth and death of even a minute being. In 2014, Jang collected weeds and seeds scattered on a roadside after a city maintenance work. Witnessing foxtails dry up without rotting, he rethought about all the lives left unprotected and harmed in the urban ecosystem where he belongs. Jang has since practiced artistic experimentations searching for the source of life in creatures coexisting with the city and questioning the value of nature and life.
