엄아롱 작가는 빠르게 변하는 도시 환경 속에서 거주지 이탈로 발생하는 다양한 부산물을 작업의 소재로 삼아 ‘이동’과 ‘남겨진 것’에 대한 조각적 탐구를 시도한다. 이러한 행위는 유년시절 가족과 함께 살던 동네가 재개발이 되면서 불가피하게 이사를 해야 했던 작가의 개인적인 경험을 바탕으로 한다. 떠나는 사람들이 버리고 간 오래된 가구와 손때 묻은 물건들은 쓸모를 상실한 폐기물로 전락했고, 추억이 깃든 공간은 폐허처럼 사라졌다. 작가는 쓰임을 다하고 버려진 물건들, 특별한 장소성을 갖는 공간 등에 천착하여 도시 생태계 속 인간과 동물의 관계를 확장된 인식으로 보여준다.

​Um A Long explores themes of ‘moving’ and ‘abandonment,’ taking by-products of moving in a rapidly changing city as subjects of his sculptures. Um’s work is based on his childhood experience of being forced to move due to urban redevelopment. Old furniture and well-worn items thrown away by the departed become waste of no use, and places with memories deteriorate into ruins. Through sculptured images of animals and plants that have been forced to move or had their habitats invaded, as well as of buildings, Move and Move seeks to speak for urban social phenomena in a broader sense.
