윤정미 작가는 사진 작업에서 지속적으로 인간의 기준이나 사회적 통념에 따른 분류 체계의 속성을 비판적으로 제시해왔다. <반려동물> 연작은 각기 다른 생활양식을 가진 반려인과 반려동물의 모습을 보여줌으로써 그들의 삶 이면에 자리한 크고 작은 사회상을 보여준다. <구(舊) 동물실험실>은 한때 동물실험실로 사용되었던 공간을 촬영하며 당시 인간의 편익에 의해 삶과 육체를 모두 내어준 동물들의 처참했던 상황을 짐작케 한다. 작가는 인간이 동물과 생태환경을 다루는 방식에 있어서 여전히 인간중심적 체계에 머물러 있다는 것을 시사하며 동물 희생에 대한 깊은 반성과 함께 그들과 공존할 수 있는 방법을 모색한다.

Employing her usual method of repeatedly capturing similar compositions to reveal social landscapes, Animal Companions series concerns the relationship between humans and animals inhabiting a city. They are not simple photographs of animals, but reflections of general social phenomena. Old Animal Laboratory series shows a space once used as an animal laboratory, suggesting the horrific treatment inflicted on animals for human benefit.
